Mayflower II: Map and Cross Staff

Navigation tools as they might have been used on the Mayflower.

It is often said that Mayflower was headed for Virginia, but due to a navigational mistake it ended up in Cape Cod Massachusetts. This is a myth (see www.historychannel.com/exhibits/thanksgiving/thnkmyth.html). Actually they could measure latitudes relatively precisely using the cross staff. They couldn't measure longitudes until much later, though.
