Spiny Rockfish

This spiny rockfish (Trachyscorpia cristulata) has large eyes, a large head, and a tapering body. It was observed at ~435 meters (~1,425 feet) deep, while exploring just south of a site in the Gulf of Mexico dubbed "Okeanos Ridge." The dive site was a priority area identified by the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council for the potential establishment of a habitat area of particular concern (HAPC) in the future.
