you guys, i'm going to japan tomorrow! i'll be in osaka/nara/kyoto for the next ten days. on the official agenda: attending a conference and presenting a paper on my research. on the unofficial agenda: eating amazing food and shooting a million photos! i almost decided against taking my hasselblad, because as much as i love it, i am painfully slow at setting up each shot; not ideal for travelling. but i feel like i would really regret it if i didn't bring it, so into the bag it goes.

      thanks, i can't wait!

      thanks, Robbie, i hope so!

      haha, not exactly ;)

look forward to yours too! i'm kind of sad not to be going to tokyo on this trip, i was there a few years ago and loved it so much, especially the food! but i hear osaka is a great food city too.

ha, you're not the first person to think i'm a marine biologist (must be my flickr name), i'm actually more of a materials scientist/physicist; i work on semiconductors for LEDs and lasers. but let's put it this way, there won't be a lot of women at this conference and i will probably be the only one wearing snakeskin shoes :)

I am so glad you're taking it, you will come back with amazing images. I almost didn't bring mine on my Ireland trip, but it totally made me fall in love with it! ...and how hot are you for going to Japan to present your research with those awesome shoes, and that great bag and a Hasselblad? Damn, that's fly! Have a great time!

... I stand corrected - still, I have yet to meet a physicist in snake skin shoes. Not even Brian green ;)

so exciting! that hasselblad is a definite must. i took mine on a couple of backpacking/camping trips this summer (like the kind where you have to carry all your own food and sleeping things and even WATER feels heavy), and i can tell you, the extra 4lbs is totally worth it. plus, slowing down while traveling is the best! it's your excuse to stop and take it all in :)

(Hasselblad + Astia) + (M6 + Neopan) = Perfect. Have a great trip. Also, nice photo of your clothes & such -- beautiful colors.

You will have so much fun!!! I think when you get to Kyoto, you will find so many things to shoot with your Hassy, especially if the Maples are turning for Autumn. Wise choice in taking it, and if you don't want to use it, it can just stay in the hotel :-) And, I love all your gear here!

You're one classy traveler! I want your brown heels so badly right now.
Have fun in Japan and don't hesitate to overshoot restaurant scenes. I can't wait to see what you come back with.

Have a great trip! You won't regret lugging along a 6x6 camera - forces you to slow down a bit, but you'll get some magic shots out of it while you're there.

Hang on...I spy more shoes than cameras! That ratio will never do :P

Seriously, enjoy it. I haven't been since 2007 and can't wait to get back to Japan!
