Canon 5DMKII | EF 50 mm | ISO 100 | 4 sec | Tripod
I took an almost identical photo to this 72 hours ago, handheld at 1/40 sec at ISO 6400 and all things considered it wasn't half bad, especially as a photo to view on Flickr. However it wasn't amazing when viewed at 100% magnification, so I thought I'd like to go back and try it with a tripod.
I often have these thoughts but never get around to it, but this time I was determined to do it, so today I carried my tripod into the bush with me, swapped in my favourite lens, used Live View to focus on the branches in the middle of the picture, used ISO 100 for a 4 second shutter speed, used a 10 second delay on the cable release, and away I went.
And .... at a brief glance there is not too much difference, but when viewed at 100% this one is much better.
I actually felt like a "real" or "proper" landscape photographer going through all these steps! Most of the techniques I used here I have learnt from www.luminous-landscape.com
