East German FES Track Bikes, Seoul Olympics

For the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games in Seoul South Korea, the East German Cycling Team wheeled these bikes out. They were very futuristic and amazing - needless to say I would have loved one and everyone was extremely jealous of them, well at least I imagined everyone else was jealous of them!

I bet everyone was jealous, these look awesome! :)

Thank you Magryciak, especially if you consider these are 21 year old bicycles (as of 2009) - they still look the business even now!

Thanks awbalfour, they look good 21 years after they were released, so imagine what they looked like to us back in 1988, simply out of this world!

OldKlein thank you, and thank you for all your favourites, always an honour everytime someone likes one of my photos enough to do that. And a funny thing, I was just looking up Kleins on the internet the other day looking for Klein Road Bikes and was sad to see they are no longer made. A friend of mine here in New Zealand bought one about 20 years ago and I always thought (me being a bigger rider) that they would be great for someone like me. I needed my bikes as sturdy as possible - I've snapped my handlebar stem practising standing starts during my track cycling days, cracked cranks, snapped pedal axles while sprinting etc, I didn't have a lot of finesse, I was more purely a strength rider!

I was also a kilo rider and love to see "old" pictures when riders used only steel frames and no disc wheels.
I´m also a big Klein-fan, I have always liked the feel of stiff aluminium frame. I keep oldklein.com -site myself.

Wow, a fellow kilo rider, I don't get to meet or chat to too many people who can say that! I saw your site a couple of hours ago and had a little look through it, but didn't see any road bikes or did I miss them?
