Joint Meeting for AFT Innovation Fund
"Educators gather in Troy to address teaching evaluation system"

New York State United Teachers - including members from the Albany City School District - will be joined by educators from Rhode Island during a sweeping three-day meeting here that will examine a wide-range of critical issues facing the teaching profession.

The Joint Innovation Fund meeting, a project of the American Federation of Teachers and funded through an AFT grant, will be held Feb. 4-6 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy. Through inter-state collaboration, the meeting aims to develop a more rigorous and meaningful approach to the teacher-evaluation system by linking that system to critical elements such as teaching standards, professional development, and peer assistance and review.

NYSUT and its Rhode Island counterpart were among several AFT affiliates nationwide to secure the grant funding.

NYSUT, the state's largest union, represents more than 600,000 teachers, school-related professionals, academic and professional faculty in higher education, professionals in education and health care and retirees. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
