Modern Tapestry

The NYC DOT Art Program partnered with the Lower East Side Business Improvement District and Lower East Side artist Kim Sillen to present the asphalt mural, “Modern Tapestry” at the intersection of Division Street, Ludlow Street and Canal Street in Manhattan. Within the mural, Sillen’s artwork marries unique, decorative patterns that represent the interwoven fabric of cultures within the Lower East Side community. The vibrant colors used in the mural evoke positive energy within the environment and are intended to bring the neighborhood to life. This project is part of a larger effort to improve and activate this corridor within the Lower East Side.
