Golden Gate Bridge 75th Birthday - Opening Salvo
I have been away from Flickr for about a month because of two reasons. Last May 4, my main working hard drives mysteriously lost its entire contents, all 1.4 terabytes of mostly images. It was a mirrored set for data safety but I guess something went horribly wrong with the electronics and everything was gone. I have backups of original files but not those that have been processed so I probably lost several hundred processed photos, ouch! Then the following day, May 5, I went on a kamikaze trip (went early home late, same day) to Yosemite and overworked my right forearm so the old injury came back and I had to nurse it back to health.
Four weeks later, I've restored "most" of what I lost during the hard drive crash and my right forearm was well enough to go shooting again so off I went to capture the 75th Golden Gate bridge fireworks show in the San Francisco bay area of California. I thought I was being smart by planning on being onsite where I will shoot the event about 3 hours before it's scheduled to start but unknown to me, there were probably 10,000 other smarter shooters already in position so there were slim pickings for optimal vantage points. All the good spots were either taken or "access not allowed" so I settled for an illegal spot midway up Conzelman Road in the Marin Headlands. Park Rangers were very accommodating as long as it's not a public safety issue so I packed up and walked uphill to look for a better view.
This is the opening salvo right after the firefalls from the bridge deck.
