I love this shot. The geyser, backlit by the moon and painted with light, presented many opportunities. Here, I wanted to isolate the fountains of water, rather than the entire geyser, against the moon. A long lens was up to the task though I really had only one shot as the moon can move surprisingly fast when you must make somewhat long exposures and coordinate the light painting with others.
As you can imagine, the structure is very fragile and the owners of the land want to make sure that it is protected. The location is on private posted land and trespassing is strictly forbidden. Don't even attempt to go unless you have obtained permission first as it is very remote. For those who might wish to visit it, I would suggest contacting the Friends of Black Rock at this site: www.blackrockfriends.org/friends/area_information/fly_geyser. They conduct occasional tours of it.
