The Skoke in Winter
The Skokomish River and snow in early January created a photo opportunity at dawn in the Staircase Rapids area of Olympic National Park.
The storm had just passed and the freeways, highways, and backroads leading to this area were covered in ice. I was quite thankful to have a 4-wheel drive. Many others, however, had found sanctuary in the ditches.
When I finally reached the forest service road that led to this location, I knew that I was alone - no tracks in the newly-fallen snow anywhere. I found that the park entrance was gated so I had to park the car and hike the 1.5 miles to this spot. It was kind of eerie to have the place to myself. No footprints from others anywhere. Very relaxing as the sun began to kiss the mountains around me.
Recently reworked. This time I used 2 exposures on different layers and used a mask. A "manual" HDR, if you will.
