Insanely cute Tachyglossus aculeatus (Short-beaked Echidna) wandering along the edge of the Jordan River, Midlands, Tasmania. This was the third individual we met on the walk, and rather paler furred than most.
A super furry animal if ever there was one.

      @ Brian - Thanks.
@ Mark - Yeah this guy (or gal?) was a real sweety. It was a great day for them.
@ Tatters - Thanks for that. Yes we were really lucky, Tassie seems to have very good populations of them. They're also larger here too.
      @ Rod - Thanks for that. :-)
@ Erica - Cheers! :-) This was such a great day for echidnas. They seem to be out in force at the moment. We saw three the previous weekend on the Tasman Peninsula.

What a great series of echidna images! I'm so jealous that you actually got to pet one of these!

Thanks for the thumbs up. I have to say that one of the best things about Tassie are the echidnas. Pretty common and criminally cute. :-)
