60 GLORIOUS YEARS
This world has crowned a thousand Kings – Though some of them were Queens
But seldom has it gazed upon - Such really futile regal scenes
Does “Fate try monarchs as by fire”? - Not really, nowadays – No.
So due to cost, lets all conspire - To shun this surplus Royal show.
For somehow England proudly stands - (Though somewhat threadbare at the knees)
The world ignores her stern commands – Regards her as a piece of cheese.
The embers of Great Britain’s power – Went cold ten years before my birth.
Our England’s dreams and hopes turned sour – Though still we think we own the Earth.
The sorts of people who wave flags – (St George was born in Palestine)
Resemble Parkhurst’s ancient lags - Especially when they’re in their wine.
Now I’m not Anti-British – No – For I’m a real “Full-English” man
But costly pageant has to go – and sod Olde England’s “Klu Klux Klan.”
Let’s spend our tax on Public Health – Or Drugs and Drink – Or on the Schools
Or let Liz waste her private wealth – To distract and amuse the fools.
