Violet-green Swallow - Explored
Violet-green Swallow - Rancho San Antonio, Los Altos, CA, USA
These iridescent swallows visit us every spring, but this is the first time I have been able to get decent shots of this species, so it is a photo lifer for me.
I have always seen these swallows in flocks and they rest / perch for a while and then dash off. I have (unsuccessfully so far) tried to get a flight shot of these swallows. They are extremely agile and erratic in flight and it is virtually impossible to get them in flight, but I will keep on trying.
These swallows almost exclusively feed on flying insects. These are migratory and most winter in Mexico and Central America.
