2018 Fall Big Chapter Project
Last year Texas Discovery Gardens was awarded a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The grant/project description challenges us to restore and establish Monarch habitat on approximately 80 acres of City of Dallas Public Park lands; to propagate and distribute regionally appropriate milkweed and other pollinator plants. One of the public park lands is Moss Park located at Royal and Greenville.
For the past decade the Moss Park prairie had become overgrown with large woody invasives, including many 15-20’ trees. This project has really evolved into a prairie restoration. TDG has removed at least 10 acres of large invasives with a forestry machine that grinds them up. Last spring, planting of milkweed and Pollinators was started, however much more work is needed.

The scope of this BCP will be to continue the planting of milkweed and pollinators, seeding native grasses and plants as well as removing smaller invasive plants.
