My wife's maiden name was Saltmarsh, but it was myself that always tried to ensure that food as not wasted, simply because I grew up in a very poor area of London,England in the Depression decade of the1930s when there was never enough to eat. If there were ever any leftover scraps they were used for soup the next day.The necessity to conserve food has been with me throughout my life and my grandchildren chide me for eating food past its sell by date. I will eat if it does not smell off, though making sure raw food is thoroughly cooked through. I save water too, having spent time in countires often threatened by drought. I fill the kettle with just enough water for the cups of tea required, and not over filling washbowls and baths etc.
