Substation Fire Wind Erosion

The Substation Fire east of The Dalles, Oregon burned 78,425 acres between July 17 and July 23, 2018. Wheat and other agricultural crops were a key fuel for the fire.

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency acted quickly to provide support to affected farmers and ranchers. Loss of crops and rapid soil erosion were the primary concerns after the fire. NRCS photo by Garrett Duyck.
