Blue teeth

    Newer Older

Agave americana (century plant, blue agave) has bright blue teeth on leaf margins that leave impressions on the new leaves that unfurl from its crown. I'd never noticed that the new teeth are really blue till taking this photo--later, they seem to age to brown.

Great perspective here; this shot could be an abstraction to the uninitiated eye. The foliage pattern created by the spines is reminiscent of ancient Assyrian architecture. An image from nature as art and redolent of the past.

Awesome shot!!! I love the texture and sharpness (literally, and in the photographic sense).

Thanks, mondo & life. I've admired these huge plants for a while, and taking macros reveals details of what makes them so impressive and beautiful.

The layering of the leaves and the greyish tone is like a landscape of leaves.
