The Road Trip Plan: Scott had one week of vacation, a gig in Coeur d'Alene on a Saturday and a gig in Tacoma the following Friday -- why not put a road trip in between?
We set off on Saturday at the bright and early hour of quarter after noon (seriously, we pushed to get out of the house early and this was the best we could do). We were past Snoqualamie and Roslyn in no time.
We stopped in Ellensburg for lunch and I hoped to score Scott a free meal for his birthday by signing him up as a member of The Palace Cafe, but you don't get membership benefits right away.
Ellensburg was very sweet, and I hope to visit for the rodeo next year. The town was full of restored vintage signs which could take a good photographer all day to capture properly.
The Iron Horse Brewery had been recommended to us, and I looked at it as a good opportunity to get at the vacation drinking early. I didn't bring an address (I got as far as booking hotels and decided everything else could work itself out) but we figured it would be in the historic downtown. We were wrong, it was out of town, past some tracks, and after that I stopped paying attention to the directions since I knew we'd just eat at the cafe near where we parked the car. It was pretty darn good, and they had amusing Trivial Pursuit cards at the tables.
