Tennis great Steffi Graf, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 1997.

Steffi Graff wanted to appear in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and we shot her in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It wasn't the easiest shhot. I ran in to a little problem on Day One, Morning One, because I photographed her in profile. She hated the nose. She complained to her agent, and didn't really seem to like much of what we were doing.

 

We took to this hotel down the road, down the beach. I'm walking on the beach with her. She had the most beautiful legs. She said 'I hate my legs.'" I said "You have fantastic legs. I'd give anything to have a set of legs like that." So, we took her to the edge of the hotel, and we posed her on this little white wall and took the pictures from the back, and then we went back to the beach.
