The Little Engine That Could

The 4-2-4 type were quite rare and date from the early days of railroading. They were usually tank engines; that is, they carried their fuel and water in the locomotive and didn't have a tender. The tank engine is denoted with a "T" at the end of the type; i.e., 4-2-4T.
