Philip Blackburn & ArtCars of Minnesota, Car Horn Fanfare
The Minnesota traffic jam is celebrated tonight as art in this world premiere of Car Horn Fanfare composed by St. Paul environmental sound artist Philip Blackburn. Scored for an octet of ArtCars, the work—by no means limited to just the horns of cars—revels in the harmonious drive-time interactions for which Minnesota is legendary.

Virtuoso honkers, squirters, and flashers play on the finest cork-and-quirky vehicles parked by the river, serenading audience members and pedestrians as a prelude to turning on the lights of the Wabasha Street Bridge and Jim Campbell’s Scattered Light.

Participating ArtCar artists include:
Jan Elftmann, Ruthann Godollei, Allen Christian, Kat Corrigan, Patti Paulson, Janet Groenert, Janet Skidmore, and Billee and Butch Kraut.

Heather Barringer, Pat O’Keefe, Shannon Wettstein, Carey Nadeau, Chris Campbell, Sam Kjellberg, Leif Galstad, and Mike Croswell.
Ensemble led by the composer

Presented by Northern; funded, in part, by an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4 2008.
