St Andrew's CofE church, Scole, Norfolk

St Andrew's was destroyed by fire in 1963, and the refurbished building features a fine east window of 1964 by John Piper's assistant Patrick Reyntiens.

This is quite wonderful, but I don't think it is quite accurate to say the Reynyiens was Pip[er's assistant. They were a partnership and for many years Piper was responsible for the designs and Reyntiens the actual manufacture of the windows, e.g. the baptistery window at Coventry Cathedral. The number of Reyntiens designed windows is relatively small. There is one at Hound, near Southampton, which I've never been able to see, and two at Odiham, quite near here..

Thanks, Tom - I think Partner was the word I was actually grasping for.

A magnificent work - I'm so glad you were able to see it after so long! It shows much more of Piper's influence than Reyntiens' more recent work does. He's been quite prolific and has evolved a distinctive personal style. The window at Hound tommuckley mentions is Reyntiens personal favourite work
