as i'm typing this date i'm thinking "the beginning of the year is officially over". have i made the most of it? that being said, i still feel the promise of a new start.

this dress, my mum wore for her engagement in 1968. isn't it lovely. sadly, it doesn't fit me, i'm a bit bigger than her. any ideas how to make one's ribcage slenderer (other than surgery....)?

what a beautiful dress! I like the idea of an engagement dress - I don't think many have that nowadays :-)

julie: i'll have to check. i have a feeling it's not quite enough. maybe if i lose a bit of weight, it would be though...?

    kristine: deal.

kristina: i guess you are right. i think they had a little engagement party - a reception for family and a few friends. that's not common nowadays, is it?

A beautiful dress (and sentiment), indeed! I like how you captured the natural light at the window, but I would have liked it better if it didn't wash out the details at the top of the dress as much (the colors and details are so much richer at the bottom of the dress).

I have a friend who enjoys wearing vintage clothing, but, yes, the form and fit are much different than how clothes are made today. She adds in material in the back from other dresses that were ruined else wise, making it look like scarfs or short trains, and creates a new look.
