On the morning of 7 October 1999, the Guagua Pichincha Volcano erupted three times sending ash and boiling water skyward. A spectacular mushroom shaped cloud rose ~12 km (~7.5 miles) above the volcano

    Wow...I still remember this day. I was little when it happen but the ashes came down to my house even though the volvano was pretty far from home

    I remember that day quite well too. It was my second day in Ecuador and I spent most of the following one at the airport waiting for the runway to re-open.
