St Brendan The Navigator - modified

Read a funny story ages ago about this statue which faces out across Bantry Bay.... to create local jobs, Gulf Oil were offered a lease on an oil terminal on Whiddy Island and paid negligible harbour dues; this statue was erected to celebrate the opening of the terminal, when they drew back the ceremonial curtain someone had placed a plaque underneath reading "come in come in, tis all free". Good to see the spirit of intervention still thrives today.
