The Southern Scutum Star Cloud

Situated south of the Scutum Star Cloud and north of the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud lies an unsung star cloud of epic proportions. I call it the Southern Scutum Star Cloud.

The Southern Scutum Star Cloud lies like a vertical thumb print in the lower right portion of the frame above and marks the southern portion of the constellation highlighted with dark nebulae to its north.

Image was acquired June 29th using the Pentax 67 with 400mm F/4 SMC Takumar at f/5.6 and a 45 minute exposure On Fuji Neopan Acros developed in Xtol 1:1
