French Troops moving up into action
French soldiers marching to the front line, France, during World War I. Dressed in their heavy army overcoats and carrying their long rifles, a group of French soldiers travels to the fighting. Note the protective coverings that the soldiers have placed on their rifles, so as to protect their weapons from adverse weather and ground conditions. This photograph looks a more 'natural' photograph, compared to many of the obviously 'staged' photographs that exist in Earl Haig's personal collection of World War I images.
