Why did the chicken cross the road?

To get to the Carnegie Free Library in Portadown, Co. Armagh, of course! (Sorry, couldn't resist!)


This photo must have been taken after 1904 given the dates carved over the doors. But our best hope for dating this one is perhaps from the posters…It's heartbreaking that the whole wall is plastered with auction posters which almost always give an exact date, but they're just not clear enough to read...


One of the posters might be of use though: "Sale previous to our removing to new premises in Market Street. Everything must be sold regardless of cost. G.R. Forbes & Co."


In this recent photo, you can see that the gateway nearest us is gone.
