That's a fabulous exhibition I'll have to save time to go through it but it looks brilliant at first sight! For a 58 year old he looks very frail and elderly. I suspect that if I had used my brain daily as he did I might be more worn out by now as well;-)

Oh, I think you give your brain plenty of daily exercise! ;)

Perhaps I'll have a look in the mirror so?

NLI, who took this photo or do you have this info?

    9. National Library of Ireland on The Commons 40 months ago | reply

As far as we know, it was any one of a stable of Irish Independent newspaper photographers. Sometimes names of well-known photographers or their initials were printed alongside the captions, and so identified who took individual photos in our Independent Newspapers Collection. However I searched 1923 issues of that newspaper, but couldn't find any evidence that this photo was ever printed in the paper. Often happened - 100s of photos taken, but only a fraction were ever printed...

      Short answer, no! :(

If this is the exhibition which I visited in June then it is superb and well worth a visit! 'Sailing to Byzantium' is one of my favourite poems.

Yeats looks rather uncomfortable in the photo; or did he always look that way?

    13. National Library of Ireland on The Commons 39 months ago | reply

Well, we don't have too many of him smiling, but you know the way with photos - they're just 1 second in time...
