from the Pioneer Cemetery in Cairnswhich is a short walk, about 10mins, from the centre of town. It’s grounds are peaceful and natural with a lawn area and a mixture of native Australian Trees along with pines has been planted. There is an open building that keeps alphabetical engraved lists of all those interred along with their year of decease and in many cases their year of birth along with the plot number. Many of the graves, however are not marked and do not have the plot number. Most of the marked grave have small brass plaques and they sometimes give cause and place of death (or place of residence) and occupation. There are a few numbers of small children or stillbirths. Most of the monuments are legible.

Scavenger Challenge - 14) Find a gravestone showing a date over 100 years ago. Bonus for both birth and death.
