popocatepetl

    Newer Older

popocatepetl (aka el popo) is the second highest peak in mexico at 17,882 feet or 5,542 meters, behind iztaccihuatl. it is about 42 miles or 70 km southeast of mexico city. it erupted for the first time in about 70 years during 1993/4, and has erupted on and off to some degree since. el popo mostly emits smoke, ash and stone. we were flying at 39,000 feet, so this kind of stood out and I was lucky to have seen it after the pilot mentioned that mexico city was coming up....

    puebla, mexico

    probably worth a large view

Searching for pictures of Popo because I'm building a collection of images of mountains I've climbed (on). Wonderful. I tried to climb it 25 years ago, but the hamburguesa ixtapopo did me in. I'd like to print the image, but would like more bits. Can you help me out? I'll make a nice print (Epson 4800) for you, too, if you wish, or send you print of aerial over 8km peak in Pakistan.
