Etoile Du Nord

    Newer Older

Location credit goes to my niece, Grace, who is finding her photography feet and sent me a picture of this old lifeboat that she took at sunset yesterday. My brain went "ping" and I knew this had some potential as a star trail subject. The boat's name is an absolute bonus.

The Etoile du Nord is an old Guernsey lifeboat which lies in the corner of Grand Harve bay next to the Vale Church. It has been there as long as I can remember and remains seaworthy but never used.

    The details:
    Nikon D5000 18-55mm VR
    ISO 1000
    f/4.0
122 x 30 second exposures (triggered by the interval timer)
Stacked using the awesome (and free) startrails.de.
Lastly, a tiny bit of light tinkering in Picasa 3.

I would have taken more but I had to give up as the tide was rising slowly but surely and had already reached the tripod before I rescued it.

      Outstanding, Kevin!

Looks like a magazine cover to me, though they'd sully it with unsightly text.

This is so cool, love the location.
I thought when I saw the stars last night I must have a go at this sometime.
