Base-camp at Dhaula, on the Rupin Pass trek
It's a pretty clearing in the woods, where the Indiahikes team (www.indiahikes.in) typically sets up the Rupin pass base camp. The village is a little ahead, on the right bank of Rupin which is crossed over a small bridge, barely a hundred meters from the camp. A moderate height of 1560 m prepares you for the cold and altitude ahead.
Around a minute after we reached (the last few kilometers to Dhaula can only be done in a AWD vehicle, along a bone-jarringly stony half-track), I dumped the rucksac in the tent and rushed down to the river to catch the last light above the woods and the river.
