Day-2 on the Rupin Pass trek, and an unexpected roadhead
Day 2 started with clambering up yet another enormous landslide, followed by a half-hour's walk along a forested stony track that suddenly climbed up to meet a wide tar-road. This is the road-head of Gosangu, which, in our case, gave an unexpected chance to some to call it quits and hitch a hike back to Shimla via Rohru (a very long ride).
The road followed the river for as far as it had been constructed and was being extended, even as I took this photo (May 2011), to the village of Jhakha high up in the mountains. Our procession merrily marched up the nascent road and the occasional bursting of dynamite perhaps portended the happy end of isolation of one more sleepy Himalayan hamlet.
