My Macro Set-Up
My first macro set-up was an O-Flash 3/4-circle Fresnel prism diffuser attached to a standard Nikon SB-600 Speedlight, mounted on either a Nikon D5000, or a Nikon D90, with a Nikkor 105-mm macro lens.

I modified the O-Flash to increase flash output by more than a full stop. See pictures 5, 6, & 7. I have been informed by recent O-Flash purchasers, that some new units have been similarly modified at factory.

For my current set-up, I replaced the O-Flash with a $15 softbox, attached to the same Nikon SB-600 speedlight. A ball-mount on my Kalt L-grip allows angling speedlight/softbox to immediately above subject, providing very even illumination.

One can never have too much light available for macro-photography.
