The Music and Legacy of Joy Division @ the Brighton Festival 2012

Paul Morley, Luke Bainbridge, and Kevin Cummins overlooked by Ian Curtis at The Music and Legacy of Joy Division.

The Music and Legacy of Joy Division

To complement the Live_Transmission concert legendary photographer Kevin Cummins and music journalist Paul Morley discuss the band that defined the post-punk era. Kevin Cummins was there to document Joy Division’s brief yet transcendent reign. Similarly, the extensive writings of Paul Morley (Joy Division: Piece by Piece) capture what Morley describes as the unique ‘mood, atmosphere and ephemeral terror’ that surrounded the band. Join them as they set the music/legacy of Joy Division in a contemporary context, asking whether it is possible for today’s bands to evoke the same level of emotional intensity.

Chaired by Observer music critic Luke Bainbridge.
