the satire - grits background
i made this site for a band i like a while ago. i like them, but i really liked their mother band, the blamed. they are the blamed is dead >> the satire. i was just looking at the very mediocre website i made for them (they provided very little in the way of content, and the site is pretty bare) and glancing at some web hosting data and realized i had some broken links on the site. one of those was 'media / backgrounds'...so i decided to try to make a background. i am not very creative...so i did the only thing i could think of, start with a picture and go from there.
the photographer of the shot is unknown. the pic was on their myspace page a while back...or maybe band website. i just extracted the guy, used some typical gimp filter (find edges, i think)...and bumped contrast. it looked kinda neat. then i realized that i had to have the band's name, or what was the point. so i first just took a script font and kinda wrapped it around the headstock using 'text to path.' it was alright...a little illegible, but considering this is a hardcore / metal band, i was alright with that. then i thought i'd try to maybe make it look like the guy was wearing a tshirt with the band name. i never like when bands wear their own shirts...but this is art, dammit! i can't be bothered with niceties. it was so awesome that i sent the headstock wrapping text packing.
this is the result. i know. blown away, right? who knew anyone in the entire earth could use a gimp filter and throw some text on a grahic and call it a background.
i put it here for the world to use. doubt it goes viral.
beware the autoplaying music on the site.
