Mitsuwa - Katsuhana Food Display (食品サンプル)

Most of the casual and mid-level restaurants in Japan display plastic models of the food they prepare - practice virtually unknown in the US. Ironically, these displays are called "sampuru" (食品サンプル), derived from the English word "sample".

Although some may think that displaying fake food is rather tacky, the degree of craftsmanship involved into making these models is quite impressive. It is also fun! :-)
