End of the Jetty
Carrying on my tale from this photo: After checking out the LOTR filming locations we drove back down the hill and through a paddock with some donkeys, ponies and bison in it. A couple of tourists were actually standing up through their sunroof and trying to touch the bison which were easily the same size as their car/4x4. Crazy people.
From Deer Park Heights we drove out to Arrowtown for some afternoon tea and visited the Chinese Settlement. It was amazing to see that some of the small houses were still standing and to read about what kind of life they led while on the hunt for gold. As the sun was starting to set we headed back to Queenstown and checked into our hotel. We then walked into town and had dinner at The Cow which is a totally awesome place to eat. They sell pizza and pasta and the building is actually where cows were once brought to be milked to provide milk for the gold miners. Apart from the disco music playing over the speakers it totally felt like we had just entered an inn somewhere in Middle Earth or some other fantasy land with stone walls, candles and a roaring fire. I could just about imagine a cloaked figure sitting in the corner smoking on a pipe =)
The next morning we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then, despite the fact it was raining, drove out to Glenorchy. The drive was absolutely beautiful, even in the rain and mist, but unfortunately because of our leisurely start we only had about fifteen minutes to spend in Glenorchy before having to drive back to get to the airport on time. So, we visited the jetty and Dad and I took a few photos before hopping back in the car for the return journey.
This is, of course, that jetty =)
