The Publican and the Priest
For more than 20 years a billboard war was waged between the licensee of the Broadway Hotel and the priest officiating at St Barnabas Church across the road.
The final block of Shepherd Street has been closed to vehicular traffic and a few of the pairs of repartee are set into the pavement.
The hotel closed and the church burned to the ground. Now the hotel building is back in the beer business and foundation digging has begun for the new St Barnabas.
There is a lot of history in this part of town.
