In & Around North Dorgenois Street - New Orleans, Louisiana

Dorgenois Street was named in honor of LeBreton D’Orgenois, who became the first U.S. marshal of the territorial government. He was also president pro tem of the Territorial Legislature in 1812, and acting mayor of New Orleans for one month.

This area was heavily Greek in the early 1800's thanks to the land donation by Nicholas Benachi, a businessman and Consul of the Royal Government of Greece.
