C. Zawadi Morris is a New York City-based grants writer, journalist and founder of The Original Media Group (OMG), a media relations company. A Chicago native, Ms. Morris is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she earned a B.S. in business administration (minor in Spanish) and Northwestern University, where she earned an M.A. in journalism. She has experience in program development and grants writing for a number of non-profits, including New Future Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) of the United Nations, where she has spent the past five years as a consultant. Ms. Morris has served as a bilingual press secretary for Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, and a senior account executive at Shandwick Public Affairs and Cohn & Wolfe Public Relations. As an independent public relations consultant for OMG, her clients have included Sarah Lee Coffee and Tea Consumer Brands, The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Edelman Public Relations, Midem Americas and Interscope Records, to name a few. Non-profit clients include Dress for Success, The National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (NCCRA), The Hip Hop Hall of Fame, The Harlem Ensemble Theatre Company, The Caribbean Culture Center, The Nina Simone Foundation, the “Truth” Anti-Tobacco Campaign and The American Black Film Festival, to name a few. Aside from her work through OMG, Ms. Morris is a freelance writer for the New York Times Local online and The Atlanta Post. She volunteers at the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA, where she tutors math and English and teaches arts and crafts in the after-school program.
