Takara Vs. Bandai

These are two 1980s Barbie dolls from Japan.

On the left is Barbie doll from Takara, which became Jenny when Mattel and Takara parted ways. It is my opinion that her face is a little chubbier and has bigger cheeks than than Jenny doll but I could be wrong. I should have added a Jenny doll into this photo, maybe next time. Her kimono and obi are very detailed and accurate.

On the right is Barbie doll from MaBa, Mattel's short lived partnership with Bandai. Takara protested that MaBa Barbie looked too much like Jenny, which is probably true. Her eyes are really detailed with tons of tiny lines, so you should view large. Her face is fading out, though. Her hair is really thick, she is a great doll. She is from an "I Love Barbie" edition that came with a tea set.

Both dolls are beautiful and high-quality.

After Mattel and Bandai parted ways, Mattel ceased making unique "big-eye" dolls in Japan and no longer produces unique face molds for use in Japan. It is really a shame because these dolls are so beautiful!
