BROAD-BILLED MOTMOT Electron platyrhynchum Perching in the Shade at the Milpe Bird Sanctuary in Northwestern ECUADOR. Motmot Photo by Peter Wendelken.

BROAD-BILLED MOTMOT Electron platyrhynchum. This Broad-billed Motmot was discovered because of a loud snapping sound reminiscent of the display of the White-bearded Manakin. The sound was actually produced by the motmot smacking a large, hard insect against a limb in the Milpe Bird Sanctuary near San Miguel de Los Bancos in northwestern Ecuador on August 7, 2012.
