COPAN MAYAN RUINS: COPAN TEMPLE 22, The Southeast Corner of The Outer Doorway, Honduras. 1984 Photo by Peter Wendelken

COPAN TEMPLE 22, in the Copán Maya Ruins in Honduras, is located at the north end of the Copán East Court. The southeast corner of the Outer Doorway of Copán Temple 22 is shown in this image. The Outer Doorway of Copán Temple 22 faces to the west where the Mayan Jaguar God of the Underworld, the Mayan Dancing Jaguar statues, and the Mayan Jaguar Altar are all located in the Copán East Court. Temple 22 has two doorways or portals. This photo shows the outer doorway (facing south). On either side of the outer doorway are huge lower canine teeth. This doorway represents the maw of a Mayan Witz Monster. Inside this doorway there is a second, inner doorway to an inner sanctum. Both doorways are surrounded by fantastic carved stone features. 1984 Photo by Peter Wendelken.

For OPTIMAL VIEWING,

almost as if you were standing at the base of the stairs to the outer doorway, VIEW AT THE GIANT SIZE (1958 x 1500) using this direct Flickr link: www.flickr.com/photos/neotropical_birds_mayan_ruins/60100...
