Well head

The Cloisters at Iford Manor contain a considerable number of ancient artefacts which were collected by the architect, Harold A. Peto, during his travels. The well head, pictured here, came from a convent in Aquilegia. It was clearly in use for hundreds of years before being brought to the UK, as is evidenced by the deep grooves made by the ropes which drew up water.
