“Luciana, I must tell you about Abraham Maslow. He is a humanistic psychologist who has set up a hierarchy of five levels of basic needs.
I suppose I have satisfied my first four levels of basic needs, which are described as follows:
I´m breathing the fresh mountain air, this warm cow milk has already comforted my stomach and I´m physically well. My physiological needs are satisfied.
My safety needs have also been satisfied because I´m able to sleep on the bed next to my humans. I feel sheltered.
On the third level, I appreciate the fact that you´re stroking my ear because I feel loved and belonging to our little family. That ticks out the needs of love, affection and belonging.
The next level is what Maslow calls needs of esteem. I have a stable, firmly based, high level of self-respect, and respect from others. I feel self-confident and valuable as a dog in the world.
Now we come to the last level of basic needs. I’m craving some self-actualization, Luciana. I need to do what I was born to do. I need to sniff, search, bark, run… and maybe have a pee in the woods. I urge to do the dog thing. Please let´s explore the region, shall we?” Flô
“Let´s go, Flô!” Luciana
