Going Slowly

This illustration has been “finished” many, many times. It’s finally been introduced to the official end of the line, however — pastel fixative. It was inspired by e-friends of mine who are cycling around the world and could do with a bit of floating above storm clouds on a balloon-assisted penny-farthing from time to time.

I have a theory about my obsession with balloons. Deep down, I really just want to colour in. With balloons, I get to draw lots of simple shapes then fill them all in with pretty colours. Also, everyone loves something that flies which really shouldn’t. It reminds me of my childhood love of Enid Blyton’s “The Magic Wishing Chair”. I also remember being outrageously jealous of Aladdin’s flying carpet.
