10,11,19 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
On Friday, November 19th, 2010, our Vintage Ladies made a trip to Richmond by deluxe motor coach. First we motored down Monument Avenue and the Boulevard, enabling us to view the architecture and historic monuments along two of our capitol’s grand thoroughfares.
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts had recently completed a $150 million major renovation which increased the gallery space by nearly fifty percent. There is a spectacular three-story atrium which connects the new addition with the existing wings and leads into a library, museum shop, café and larger galleries. There is also a new four acre sculpture garden. The Sydney and Frances Lewis Art Nouveau and the Art Deco exhibits have been expanded to include one of the most significant collections outside of Paris and were the focal point of our guided tour. On our own we visited the Lillian Pratt Fabergé Collection. I snapped photos of all five Fabergé eggs. We lunched at the Amuse Restaurant, located in the recently opened McGlothlin Wing, featuring fresh Virginia produce daily.
