08,10.19 Pope-Leighey House
A National Trust Property Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Located At Woodlawn Plantation.

The Pope-Leighey House is an example of Usonian architecture. It is a modestly scaled, Wright-designed house that was affordable to the middle class and adapted to its environment.

It was commissioned in 1939, by Loren Pope of Falls Church, Virginia. Wright used four natural materials to create a sense of space, although the house itself is only 1,200 square feet. In 1964, when the house was scheduled for demolition to construct Route 66, Mrs. Marjorie Leighey, the second owner of the house, donated it to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which relocated it to the grounds of Woodlawn Plantation.
